This is an image that was 7 years in the making for me. I had been visiting the Grand Canyon during monsoon season attempting to capture lightning since 2015. However, I was either there at the wrong time or just failed entirely.
Finally, in 2022, I gambled on going to the North Rim, only visited by about 10% of people who visit The Grand Canyon. On my first night of my visit back, I was blessed by this beautiful sunset storm that rolled right over the canyon. I was jumping for joy when I saw this strike come down.
Not only that, but Northern Arizona as a whole had been having a wet summer, so a lot of the canyon was green, contrasting beautifully with the Majestic Red Rock of The Grand Canyon.
It may have taken me 7 years to get a lightning bolt here, but my conditions this evening couldn't have been better.
