Hot Creek is a difficult place to photograph in the winter. A lot of times when it snows, the warm water around it tends to melt it pretty quickly, & the steam can also limit visibility. However, a huge, cold storm managed to drop 3-4 feet of snow down there in January, 2021. Needless to say, I had plenty of time to capture this image after that storm. I needed a morning with good clouds & enough wind so blow the steam away. I had both this morning. Despite it being -9ºF, it was a fantastic morning.
