The Sonoran Desert has some of the most incredible landscape around, which is funny, because a lot of people will associate the desert with being "hot, flat and boring". Let me tell you... it is anything but boring if you know where to look! 

This mountain range in the middle of it all is one I've visited numerous times, as its proximity from Southern California (where I lived at the time) was not too far from here. Feeling motivated to capture something different, I started scrambling around some of the nearby ridges. After awhile, I found this lone Cholla Cactus up high that ended up being the perfect subject to break up the jagged peaks. Using the rule of thirds, I composed the cactus to be in the lower left 1/3rd of my image to make it stand out, but not take away from the remainder of the image.
