In 2019, I had gone to Yosemite Valley to photograph the elusive "moonbow" for the first time. A moonbow is exactly what it sounds like... a rainbow illuminated by moonlight instead of sun.
I was so fascinated with this concept that I began thinking of other places I could photograph this phenomenon. But also questioned myself as to how much moonlight I needed to properly capture this. Does it need to be close to full, or do I have some wiggle room?
I decided to try to capture it at Rainbow Falls in Mammoth Lakes with just 40% full moon. Turns out, it's not only enough to capture, but enough to see with the naked eye. I was all alone screaming by myself as I captured this. Full moonbow & the milky way rising above. An incredible experience that I have now seen many times. It never gets old.
