Frozen methane bubbles at Convict Lake near Mammoth Lakes, California.

Following a very snowy December, January went by completely snowless, but temperatures remained cold. This allowed all the remaining thawed lakes to freeze over without any snow on them. When convict froze over, these ice bubbles formed. I shot images of these every day for a week, as I wasn't sure if i'd ever see these again. This was my favorite image I walked away with. Eventually, the temps warmed up just enough to cause the surface of the ice to become hazy, and ruin any chance of photographing these.

I named this image "frozen in time" not only because was it literally frozen, but I wish I could have frozen this moment longer. It didn't hit me how rare this was unti after it was gone.
